Stephanie is the Editor-in-Chief and Lead Designer of the magazine. Raised in Spanish Harlem in NYC, she studied writing and rhetoric in college, then went on to teach ELA and writing to middle and elementary school students. Now, she teaches writing classes to adults at Gotham Writers Workshop. Her work has been featured in Business Insider, USA Today, Thought Catalog, Them, and a number of literary magazines. When she's not writing, you can catch her watching reruns of RuPaul's Drag Race or ordering an overpriced dirty chai latte at Starbucks. You can connect with her HERE!

Senior Illustrator: Jay Kennedy (@jk_inc)
Jay is a New Zealand born artist who currently lives in Melbourne, Australia with his wife and daughter. He loves working with a diverse range of people and organizations from around the world to help bring their vision to life with his art. Jay’s illustrations can be seen in previous issues of KCB the magazine including the cover of Issue 001: Finding Joy. Jay is at his happiest when talking comics, grappling in JiuJitsu or—of course—drawing!

Safe Space Manager: Shai (@vip_kingshai)
Shai is a seasoned poet, multi-stage performer, and the Safe Space Manager of Karma Comes Before. His poetry delves into topics of self-appreciation, empowerment, and adventurism. He's always on the lookout for accessible spaces, and has found community on stages at One Love, One Mic, BRIC's poetry slam, KCB's Erotic Writing Party, and more. In 2022, Shai celebrated his birthday by publishing his debut poetry chapbook, "Through Shai's Eyes" (Joel Parker). You can put a smile on his face buying him food, watching anime with him, and trying new experiences.

Zabrina C. Mathews, better known by her stage name "RoyalZee," is a loud and proud Afro-Puerto Rican Gem hailing from ENY, Brooklyn. RoyalZee is a storyteller and her poems touch upon healing, personal development and self-growth shared through spoken word venues and social media platforms. Bringing her unique solitaire flare to Karma Comes Before as the Social Media Specialist, she dares to throw her glitter in the air where her words and wardrobe will give others inspiration. When not performing or writing, she can be found with her only born adult son laughing, bantering, and geeking out over world mysteries.

Ata is a writer and educator from Yonkers, NY, living in the Bronx (or is he from the Bronx if he lived there as a baby, he wonders). He's excited to join the KCB community (emphasis on "community") and grow as a writer and performer and help others do the same. He's looking forward to bringing an intentionality around community and craft to KCB.
