  • Editor-in-Chief: Stephanie Nieves (@wordchefsteph)

    Stephanie is the Editor-in-Chief and Lead Designer of the magazine. Raised in Spanish Harlem in NYC, she studied writing and rhetoric in college, then went on to teach ELA and writing to middle and elementary school students. Now, she teaches writing classes to adults at Gotham Writers Workshop. Her work has been featured in Business Insider, USA Today, Thought Catalog, Them, and a number of literary magazines. When she's not writing, you can catch her watching reruns of RuPaul's Drag Race or ordering an overpriced dirty chai latte at Starbucks. You can connect with her on wordchefsteph.com.

  • Senior Illustrator: Jay Kennedy (@jk_inc)

    Jay is a New Zealand born artist who currently lives in Melbourne, Australia with his wife and daughter. He loves working with a diverse range of people and organizations from around the world to help bring their vision to life with his art. Jay’s illustrations can be seen in previous issues of KCB the magazine including the cover of Issue 001: Finding Joy. Jay is at his happiest when talking comics, grappling in JiuJitsu or—of course—drawing!

  • Spiritual Practitioner: Amanda Baker (@_thegypsygoddess_)

    Amanda is a native New Yorker raised in Spanish Harlem. She loves practicing spirituality and wellness because it’s the key to a joyful, healthy life. Her routine is based heavily in her Caribbean culture. Growing up she learned the tried-and-true Caribbean secrets of wellness and spirituality. As an adult, her spiritual journey led her to incorporate additional tools into her routine including meditation, healing crystals, mindfulness exercises, and yoga.

  • Temp Associate Editor: Janelle Cepero (@janellecepero)

    Miami native Janelle Cepero brings a unique blend of storytelling and marketing expertise to the KCB team. She studied Marketing and Communications in college, then deepend her creativity studying yoga and meditation in India. When not weaving soulful stories, Janelle loves exploring vegan cafés and getting lost in inspiring autobiographies. She's excited to add her strategic writing skills and a touch of zen calm to the team!

  • SEO Fellow: Elise LeSage (@lofiliterary)

    Elise is a fiction writing MFA student and a freelance book marketing specialist based in North Carolina. She's always loved supporting other writers, especially those who haven't yet broken into the major literary scene. Through this SEO fellowship, she hopes to get more eyes on Karma Comes Before and all its talented contributors.

    Jayn is a multi-passionate creative with a background in interior design. They were born and raised in Queens, New York and moved to Arizona to enjoy desert living and wonderfully extreme heat. In joining the KCB team as an editorial fellow, they hope to share a touch of their radiance and attention to detail with every story chosen to grace the pages of KCB mag!
